As we start a new year, we continue learning new medical terms. We are starting on the Cardiovascular System and we are also reviewing for our Final Exam. Soon, we will become certified in CPR and first aid. Next semester, we will learn lots of new things in Health Science I. Students interested in taking Health Science II and Clinical Studies next year, really need to focus on finishing the year strong.
In October, HOSA sponsored PINK week. Pink Week is our way to recognize those affected by breast cancer. Throughout the week, we had a pink nail day, pink sock day, pink PJ day, pink bow/hat day and a PINK OUT day. The classes competed in contests too. 1st and 2nd periods had a pumpkin decorating contest. 4th and 5th periods had a ribbon decorating contest. 6th and 7th periods decorated bras. The winning classes were rewarded with a PIZZA PARTY! We concluded pink week with a Recognition Ceremony that was put on by the HOSA students. The ceremony consisted of speeches, a song, and the reading of names in honor and memory of those affected by breast cancer. It concluded with a balloon release. Pink Week was a huge success thanks to the hard work of DCIT HOSA.
Today we reviewed animal cells and cell parts by making a cell. Health Science 1 students used cookies, icing, and candy to make a cell including all of the major cell parts. Their creativity was apparent and the students did a great job. |
