First Year Students- Expect to learn
Health Science I
First semester, be when we begin Health Science I. This class will introduce you to the multitude of careers in the health care field. It will also teach you about the history of health care, ethical and legal issues regarding health care and many more topics.
Semester two we will be learning medical terminology. Finally, a lot of the things you hear on Gray's Anatomy and Royal Pains are going to make sense to you. Medical terminology is not easy; it is similar to taking a foreign language. However, med term is very important to anyone interested in any health care career. We will learn many medical root words, prefixes and suffixes and how to put them together in so many different ways. Any, yes, spelling counts! You are going to know so much by the end of the semester.
Medical terminology is taught by body systems. This means we will focus on the terms that relate the the heart and our cardiovascular system one week, and another we will focus on everything kidney (renal). Since it is done this way, you will be getting an introduction into anatomy and physiology also.
Level II Students
I am so excited to have you back with me for another year of learning and growing in our knowledge of health science. We will focus on Nursing Assistant knowledge and skills in addition to enhancing our knowledge base of medical terminology, abbreviations, anatomy, healthcare systems, safety and much more. We will spend lots of time in the lab preparing for an exciting time of clinical rotations in the Spring Semester.
Technology is thriving in health care as much as it is everywhere else. In our class this year, we will be using technology to our benefit too. Look for schoology, remind.com, kahoot, quizizz, and Healthcenter 21 to help with this. Ask Mrs. Flowers for more information about any of these.
